The Halifax Assistance Fund
The Halifax Assistance Fund (HAF) has been working to help those in
greatest need in our community since 1866. We work to financially
support the efforts of the dedicated organizations whose staff and
volunteers work tirelessly to help those most affected by poverty.
In recent years, HAF funding has focused primarily on three groups
whose needs are often not met through existing services:
1. Youth 16–19 years of age experiencing or at-risk of
homelessness who, without intervention and/or support,
risk living in poverty for years;
2. Single adults struggling with pervasive issues relating
to mental health, addiction, violence, criminal justice and/or
physical illness; and/or
3. Single mothers with young children who also may
fall into the previous two categories.
Note: The formal longstanding name of the HAF is "Halifax
Association For Improving The Conditions Of The Poor”.
